Burning Desire

The idea here was to create a perfume and an object expressing the idea of its smell. I tried to obtain a burnt smell, which I wanted to be halfway between something pleasant (the smell of a log fire) and disconcerting (a burnt-out electrical plug). The fragrance, which I called Burning Desire as a reference to the increasingly over-the-top names thought up by advertising agencies, was developed by the perfumier Calice Becker. The porcelain object, made by craftsmen at the Fondation Bernardaud, looks like the remains of a burnt wall moulding. Made in two parts, it contains scented granules. The fragrance is gradually released through the slit, creating a perfumed sub-space.
