Pure Mess

Wooden Stool / 2OO9

"Pure Mess" uses only wood with knotholes. Usually knotholes are considered as a defect whereas here they create a pattern underlining each object's uniqueness. Originally "Pure Mess" was designed for a charitable project in Portugal where generated profits were channelled towards a non profit foundation for children with Down Syndrome. Trisomy 21 is described as a slight genetic difference creating a problem. The idea for this project was to imagine a design incorporating a difference which would become the quality of the object.
