6O years have passed since the font Forte was published by The Monotype Corporation and for 25 years it has been provided with Microsoft Office applications. Despite of the font’s subsequent worldwide use its designer, Karl Reißberger, has hardly been known. Finding Forte, a project initiated by Mara Reißberger (Karl’s daughter) and graphic designer Tom Koch aims to change that. Artists from all disciplines were asked to contribute their interpretations of Forte to be published in a book and to be exhibited at the Vienna Design Forum in September 2O22. Our project consists of three tote bags producing a visual clash which is provoked by a jarring combination of old and new: graphic representations of emotions widespread in today’s digital communication are written in Forte, a font from a time when emoticons didn’t exist.
